General discussion • RPI 4B hard locks up/freezes at 65C

I have a few year old RPI 4B (4GB). Was mostly collecting dust for a significant time. Recently I installed the latest Raspberry Pi OS (64-bit), hooked it up to a monitor and keyboard, started compiling some software and it hard locked up. Mouse froze, screen froze, unresponsive, SSH disconnects.

I started watching the CPU temperature and it idles around 55C (which I know is normal) but as soon as it reaches 65C it hard locks up, instead of throttling.

* I have a heatsink on it from Pimoroni (and is in a PiBow case)
* I remember stress-testing it when I got it and the temperatures got much higher without issues
* I have the official power supply; I tried this with another one just in case (the Steam Deck's), and same issue
* I have tried updating the EEPROM, same issue
* Tried doing this over SSH only, same issue

Am I correct in thinking this is a hardware issue with the board and is not fixable or am I missing something? I'm verry well-versed in computers and my intution says "hardware fault" but yeah, maybe I'm missing something.
