I am currently setting up some home-network applications for backups and monitoring some data. For this I am using a Pi 3+ with the official powersupply and a 2.5 inch harddrive connected via an USB-enclosure.
The problem at hand is that I loose connection over ssh when doing something with above average computational cost. Like cloning a larger git repo, copying many files or even when I run some docker images. When this occurs the terminal freezes and any login after that results in an unresolved hostname. Although the device did not reboot and my router lists it as available with the given hostname. After an hour or more everything returns to normal.
I reflashed the device with different versions of RaspiOS, which did not change anything. Unfortunately, I lack the knowledge for any troubleshooting here. Is it a problem with cooling? Or with my router? Or some configuration issues?
