When I added a 2nd user to my Raspberry Pi 4, I had problems with my keyboard not displaying the right special characters, ie. shift-numbers many were wrong and the " key was giving me an @.
The problem was with the keyboard layout. It was defaulting to GB and no matter what method I used I could not change it to US. (this solution should work no matter what country layout you are trying to change to.)
After searching the internet, and this forum, I was unable to find the solution.
I decided to dig and find a way to correct the problem, then share it here for others to use.
The solution I found was to edit the /home/<your user id>/.config/wayfire.ini file. (Another way to access this file is "~/.config/wayfire.ini".) Find the line starting with xkb_layout= and change "gb" to the country code you want to use. To change it to the US layout change the line to
xkb_layout=us
Save the file and you should be ready to go. I don't remember having to reboot afterwards, but if you are still seeing the GB layout, try a reboot to see if it works then.
Good luck with this solution. Please reply if you have questions or comments.
