I'm on my final legs to assemble the 40% Mac (se/30) from here:

But ran into some issues with the WaveShare 3.5 display mentioned in the guide.
First off, i needed to revert back to 32-bit BullsEye for vMac to execute at all. No issues there. Runs perfect, booting off HDD-images, etc., but now i have an issue when i try to connect the LCD and boot (after adding the overlay files and updating the config).
When powering on, all i get is the red led. It stays like that until i remove power.
Disconnecting the LCD and i can boot properly (but can't see anything via HDMI as the config now points to the LCD. Restoring my old config of course enables me to use HDMI as normal again...).
Have anyone had similar issues (non-boot, constant red led) with these small LCDs? Any pointers how to go about it?
